This is the time when experts sit together, discussing about village developments throughout the year. Throughout the talk highlighting the two brightest names, and also the two brands “dominating” the global fashion village in 2018: Gucci and Balenciaga. The problem is, although under the leadership of Kering’s parent company, which brand is really holding the king?

After analyzing data from more than 70 million consumers, experts from the Lyst Index revealed that Balenciaga had a spectacular record in the second half of 2018 while Gucci took the No. 1 spot in the rankings. The mourners scoured the Gucci name relentlessly with keywords like “shoes” and “skirts.”

It can be said that under the guidance of creative director Alessandro Michele and CEO Marco Bizzarri, Italian fashion always leads in the Top brand every quarter of the year.

Balenciaga also has poor edge. Access to the brand was increased by 50% from NTK Demna Gvasalia last year, leading the top spot during the third and fourth quarters. But overall, Balenciaga is still one step behind Gucci. The problem is, what is the secret of the success of these two brands?

When it comes to success of Balenciaga and Gucci, the two creative directors will be told first: Alessandro Michele and Demna Gvasalia. Everyone has a strategy of using extremely powerful and impressive design languages, growing from season to season instead of innovating and starting over. This makes consumers know what they expect from the brand while still having everything to make them happy.

However, Michele and Gvasalia are only half the story. Both Balenciaga and Gucci have talented strategists in sales. Jacopo Venturini joined Gucci in 2015. Previously, he was Valentino’s mainstay in the role of fashion application manager, coordinating sales activities.

Similarly, before being appointed Balenciaga CEO in 2016, Cedric Charbit worked under the guidance of Francesca Bellettini at Saint Laurent. Initially as product strategy director and then deputy director of product and marketing – helping push this brand’s revenue beyond the billions of dollars.
